Welcome to the Practice Playground!
What is the Practice Playground, and what can I do here?
The Practice Playground was created for everyone who likes a challenge, wants to practice his or her skills at editing or writing, or just likes some fresh ideas to work with.
Every week a theme will be posted, round which you create a picture or write a paragraph. You can post your works in the respective thread, and other members can comment on and/or critique your work.
Can I win anything?
No, the Practice Playground is here for fun, challenges and pushing yourself to get better. We will look into a sort of featured works showcase, but that will be addressed later.
Sounds good to me! How do I sign up?
You just jump right in and create something after the weekly themes. You don't have to sign up, there are no obligations and if you feel like only joining in every once in a while, that's perfectly fine.
Can I create something more than once for the same week theme?
If you're feeling particularly inspired - go ahead! There is no limit on the amount of works you can post.
Is there a restriction on what I can post here?
Yes, there are a few rules you must follow.
- Entries must follow the general rule of the forum: no racist, sexist or otherwise hurtful content. Mature content is created on your own discretion, but if it is deemed unappropriate for the forum such entries might be removed by a moderator.
In short: keep your stuff PG-13 rated. - If you're commenting, try and keep your feedback as positive as possible. This doesn't mean you can't point out the flaws in someone's work, just that you have to be careful about wording it. Don't only point out mistakes, offer advice on how to make things better.
Hurtful comments will be removed. - For Editors:
Edited pictures are preferred. Keep in mind that this is a place to practise - simply taking a picture and posting it can hardly be called practice. Show that you put some effort and time into your creations. How you work out the themes is entirely up to you. - For Writers:
Make sure that your work has at least been Spell Checked. Entries containing excessive grammar and spelling mistakes, so that the result becomes hard to read, will be removed.
Again; make an effort to make sure that what you create is the best you can achieve.
Also, when posting your work it is preferred that you distinguish it from a regular post in some way - put your work in quotes or a spoiler.
Can we chat in the threads or are we restricted to just posting creations?
By all means, comment, chat, give each other ideas and tips and tricks. This is a great place to discuss your work and possibilities, so do it!
Is there a time limit on the challenges?
The challenges are weekly, and we'd like to keep it that way. As a rule of thumb, do not post in a theme thread more than after two weeks when it was first issued.
